Social health protection in Pakistan – To be or not to be?

Guest lecture by Dr. Matthias Nachtnebel (KfW Development Bank)

This practitioner talk will take place on Tuesday, 13.06.2023, 18:00 – 19:15, at Kleiner Hörsaal (Bismarckstr. 1a).

Pakistan followed the example of many large Asian countries and started introducing social health protection from 2015 onwards. The KfW Development Bank played a vital role in funding its introduction and in supporting accompanying scientific research, amongst others with the Chair of Development Economics at FAU (https://blogs.fau.de/inspirepakistan/).

Matthias will talk about the challenges of Pakistan’s journey towards social health protection, KfW’s role, and the realities of a practitioner in German development cooperation. Additional to offering exciting insights during his 30 minutes talk, Matthias will be available for an extended Q&A session with students.
Matthias has been the health advisor Asia with KfW development bank for the last six years. Previously, he has worked for the Robert Koch Institute, the University of Melbourne, the Asia Pacific Observatory on Health Systems, and held various clinical positions. He is a family physician by training, with postgraduate degrees in tropical medicine, applied epidemiology and global public health.
